Obediah Michael Smith was born in the Bahamas in 1954 and holds a BA in Speech & Drama from Fisk University. He has studied French in Paris, France, and Spanish at the Universidad de Costa Rica. Obediah has participated in writers’ workshops facilitated by Lorna Goodison, Earl Lovelace, Grace Nichols, Merle Collins, and Mervyn Morris at the University of Miami and The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, as well as participated in poetry festivals in Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Kenya, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Romania. He has lived in France, Mexico, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, and Botswana. He has published 33 books of poetry.
