Jimmy Cozier

Edward Lloyd “Jimmy” Cozier (1912–1990), who is probably better known by many of the current generation as the father of the famous former cricket journalist and commentator Tony Cozier, was one of the founders of Bim. He was a prominent Barbadian journalist, newspaper editor and publisher, and worked quite extensively throughout the Caribbean. He was for a time managing editor of Saint Lucia’s The Voice, founder of the short-lived Barbados Daily News and an influential columnist at the Barbados Advocate. The Media Centre at Kensington Oval was renamed Coppin Cozier Short Media Centre in his honour in 2007.

The Beginnings of Bim

The Young Men’s Progressive Club had started in late 1935, succeeding an earlier attempt at organisation known as The Young Men’s Philanthropic Society. First General Secretary was Jackie Evelyn, and it was largely through his efforts that the first club magazine appeared in January 1938.
